Coffee has always been my thing since I was 15. And while that sounds a bit crazy, I honestly can’t go a week without drinking a few cups. In my eyes, coffee isn’t just an alternative drink to tea.
If drank in moderation, often around 16-onuce serving a day, you can really benefit from the nutritional value of this drink.
I prefer making coffee at home because it’s a lot more convenient and cheaper. I’ve done so with a few coffee makers, including Bunn HB Heat N Brew.
This model isn’t as popular as Cuisinart DCC-3200 and it certainly doesn’t make more coffee than Ninja CE201. But what you get for the price is Bunn’s latest coffee machine that performs well for sure.

What’s Bunn?
D-link des-1008a user manual. When Bunn first entered the kitchenware in 1960, they specialized solely in manufacturing commercial coffeemakers. These industrial-grade machines were tough and indestructible, reasonably priced, and well functional. Today, this brand’s coffee makers are everywhere, from restaurant and hospitals to travel plaza and offices.
Bunn Phase Brew
After some years of serving the commercial audience, the company branched out into the home market with their first brewer, the Bunn Velocity Brew. This model makes good coffee. But the design is quite simple, without basic features such as an auto shut off function and drip stop control.
Not so long ago, Bunn released HB Heat N Brew coffeemaker, which is, in my opinion, a complete makeover of the Velocity Brew. This machine can make great coffee, the kind that leaves you craving for another cup immediately after sipping the first one.
An Overview of HB Heat N Brew
HB Heat N Brew is an SCAA certified coffeemaker that produces great coffee in a temperature range of 195 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit. With it, every cup of coffee you make promises a very rich flavor.
And if you’ve used the Velocity Brew before, you’ll notice the difference in taste.
In terms of cost, Heat N Brew is more expensive than Ninja CE201 and Cuisinart DCC-3200. And while it’s one of Bunn’s latest models, the build is still basic. The brand leaves out many advanced and important features in this make. And seriously speaking, the model doesn’t feel like a makeover.
Bunn Model Hb
Apparently, Heat N Brew is programmable and it has a built-in auto shut off feature. And that’s it. There’s no pre-sock option, no pour over cycle, no innovative display. It’s still a good option if you can do with the basics because, at least, it can make good coffee. But if you’re looking for a more advanced coffee making machine in the same price range, you should consider something like Cuisinart CPO-800 or KitchenAid KCM12040B.
Bunn takes the credit for giving durability a priority in the Heat N Brew design. This thing is tough, able to take any kind of abuse and work fine. To put durability into perspective, this pick is one of Bunn’s model that refuses to die.
Design of the Bunn HB Heat N Brew Coffeemaker
No doubt, Bunn is one of the most creative coffeemaker brands in the market and the HB Burn N Heat I is here to show for it. Of course, they aren’t good at naming their products, but who cares about that anyway?
The brand uses a design pattern that its competitors haven’t replicated yet. Burn N Heat is modern, a bit semi-commercial, and the kind of twist in construction depicts a level of creativity that I’m yet to see in other coffee machines.
Bunn fails to integrate tons of great features that you find in some popular coffeemakers in the same price range. But I’m more willing to admit that what the HB Heat N Brew has is actually more than enough for the purpose. At the end of the day, what you need is good coffee and this thing can provide that just as easily.
Bunn Heat N Brew Review
Its carafe built is simple with a unique twist in construction. The flapper design, which easily cuts back on dribbling, ensures rogue drips are completely nonexistent. And from hand on testing, I really couldn’t get it to dribble. How cool!
Looking at the reservoir, you can easily tell that the stepped water level indicators are a great innovation. And the clear, easy-to-read calibration means you can’t go wrong when filling this unit with water. Say you want to make 4 cups of coffee, for example. All you have to do is to fill the water reservoir up to the four cups mark. There’s no selectable cup size, but you still should get the measurements correct at least.
The control panel isn’t anything advanced or innovative. It’s the simplest I’ve ever laid my eyes on. Sometimes the simplicity in design is what really matters and Bunn has gotten this one right. The panel graces five backlit buttons with colored rings. And there’s a not-so-bright LED display in the middle.
Don’t expect the colored rings to light in daylight. They are just too dull to see. This, of course, isn’t a flaw that should even bother you because the buttons work independently of the backlight. And if you ask me, I even wish there were a way to turn off the backlight during the day, as they aren’t even useful in the first place.
That you can put this unit in a dishwasher and clean it means you don’t have to get your hands that dirty. And if you are a person like me, who loves to give kitchenware quick touchups in the shortest time possible, then this is the coffeemaker for you. The lid, brew basket, and carafe are all dishwasher safe. Plus, there isn’t a lot required to maintain this unit. Just clean it regularly and store it somewhere safe until the next time you want to use it.
How Does this Coffeemaker Perform?
Based on my testing, Bunn HB Heat N Brew, while with a few flaws here and there, performs quite well. From my experience, the programmable digital timer is quite handy, allowing me to automate the coffee making process so that by the time I wake up my coffee is ready to serve and drink.
I love how fast this unit brews coffee. Its ability to make 10 cups in just 10 minutes means that even if you are running late in the morning, you can still drink a cup of coffee and get to work or school on time.
The warmer plate is one of the best additions that Bunn has ever include in a coffeemaker for home use. I didn’t have to reheat the coffee between the brewing time and the first 120 minutes. That’s because the warmer plate locks in the heat and only goes off after 2 hours elapses.
One of the things I love about this unit is how it heats water. The heating happens in the top part of the reservoir. This means it will take some time to heat up the water before the actual brewing starts. And once the water is hot, getting your coffee ready should be as easy.
Ease of Use
HB Heat N Brew isn’t just simple in design. It’s also easy to use. In fact, you should find it easy to maneuver, even if you’ve never used a coffeemaker before. Because, at the end of the day, the straightforward approach to design makes it simply navigable.
Each button on the control panel serves just one purpose. There’s one for brewing, one for picking a brewing program, one for setting the clock, one for picking hour, and the other for setting time. Probably the best way to put it is that if you’re looking for a coffeemaker with the simplest functionalities, then this one is the right option to consider.
Again, there’s no complex menu to follow. And if you ask me, you wouldn’t even need a manual for this thing even if you were new to Bunn’s coffeemakers.
The brewing basket has an oversized handle that makes it easy to slide out of the machine for cleaning. And cleaning the basket doesn’t take long either. Dump out used grounds, throw it into a dishwasher for a quick touchup, and then put it back in place.
